So here is what I see,
The celtics have failed to cover their last two games against the spread, which is usually a cause for concern, but I feel also that when looking at the jazz they havent been an easy bet as of late either, having dropped three of four ATS. Furthermore, the celtics showed some promise in the post vs the Clippers, but I mean come on Chris Kaman is less than impressive. The Jazz on the other hand, have not been so wonderful themselves, only having beat the inexperienced Pacers with their new point guard Devon Harris. The over under also could be a good way to approach this game, as the celtics have been scoring a lot as of late with their new bench players such as green, but the jazz also look like they are an Under team quite often.
So Im gonna take two stabs here...

John thompson III is a better coach than Jim Boeheim. He is an adjustment coach who does not remain fixated on one strategy . If you remember correctly, when this team got slapped by a young Notre Dame Squad early this year, every sportscaster, coach, announcer, and journalist wrote off Georgetown as "the bottom of the barrel" in the Big East. Yet, they reinvented themselves and have been a force all season since that point. I believe the same will happen here. Yes they are without their captain and floor leader, but this is a coaching mismatch. Boeheim does not know how to make adjustments, and the small changes he makes within his matchup zone will be exposed this week by a more disciplined coach and team. Hoyas At HOME... BABY!!!

Although everyone and their mother is on this play, I just think its a bit of a talent and athleticism mismatch. Plus Missouri beat the bag out of K state in missouri so we have the revenge factor and the line is suspicious.

Nebraska is getting a lot of attention after their defeat of Texas a few games back, but i think they go into Iowa state and catch a loss.
Villanova -6.5 V St. John's

St. Johns is an excellent squad that tends to sneak up on the opposing big east squads. But from what I can see this line says it all. Villanova is a much more well rounded team, and they having had some pretty poor showings as of late would make me think that this is a lot of chalk, however, I really believe in the idea that they need to tighten up before the Big east tournament, and a loss, or even a close contest with the johnnies will be unacceptable. Villanova has failed to cover 5 in a row ATS, and the spread is almost 7??? sort of ridiculous to think that they wont cover this just in a pure betting sense, but also basketball wise with the high tempo that this game entails I think 6.5 is not a huge margin as both teams should reach the high 60s. hey and by the way... st. Johns has covered 5 in a row.... and they are catching 6.5??

So we didnt have the greatest start to this week but what can one expect from Las Vegas, they have to give away the easy ones every once in a while... Either way the NBA is back and that is the most important thing we have to discuss on this site.
Speaking of the NBA lets talk about the New York knicks and their new look roster, as well as the Denver nuggets. The knicks have acquired Carmelo Anthony and his side kick, former finals MVP Chauncey Billups, along with Renaldo Balkman, a very athletic swingman and Sheldon Williams, who in his young career has become quite the journeyman. But although the Knicks have put together a lineup that includes the NBA's toughest man to guard and its best Power Forward, I still see some gaps in this lineup and on the bench. D'Antoni's style will easily cater to Carmelo, as he encourages the fast break mentality which will open the court and provide shots for both superstars, and this will be complimented by the excellent passing of Billups who knows how to win, however there are two main components that this team is still missing; Rebounding and Defense.
Its very tough to get into a fast break offense without the ability to rebound on defense, not to mention the traditional fast break is run when a team makes a defensive stop and catches the offensive team off guard in transition. The new Knicks lineup is likely to be
1.Chauncey 2.Fields 3. Carmelo 4.Williams 5. Amare or the same lineup with Amare at the 4 and Roni Turiaf at the 5. To me, although the knicks will win a few more games, with less than 30 left in the season, this roster spells a lot of points and still NO DEFENSE.
Billups is still excellent on offense and is still Mr. Big shot, but unlike felton he cannot match up with Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, or any of the elite point guards in the league, while those teams have players that cannot only matchup with him at the one, but also have paul pierce and luol deng to match up with MELO. The knicks lineup is vastly improved in some areas, and having melo will certainly help them sell tickets, but to be frank it WILL NOT, and I repeat WILL NOT get them past the first round of the playoffs, especially since with less than 30 games left they look like they will take 6th 7th or even 8th in the Eastern conference. Their problem all along is they are SOFT. They get pushed around by the rugged teams of the East, Hawks, Celtics, the Heat etc. If the Knickerbockers get lucky they will draw the Magic in the playoffs, the other soft team in the east. But still, with no one to guard Howard and Brandon Bass seeing more playing time, I think the Knicks are in trouble come playoff time.
As Far as the Nuggets, they still have some thinking to do. They already have a stellar center in Nene, and they will be splitting playing time at the 4 with Wilson Chandler and Kenyon Martin both showing their skills this year. Gallinari will fill the 3 nicely on offense but plays ZERO defense, while the 2 guard debate still rages on, do we start JR SMITH now that Melo is not around for 27 a game? or do we continue to roll with Arron Afflalo, who despite marked improvement in the last 2 seasons, is still not really a viable starter on a contending team. As stated by J.A. Adande in his ESPN article today, the Nuggets' Management and Ownership played their cards correctly by waiting until the last minute for this trade. It got the Knicks front office to offer much more than they would have Pre-All Star Break and the addition of Wilson Chandler and/or Mozgov may have been directly correlated to the savvy business sense of the Nuggets ownership..

Ok.. So after getting to almost 40 games over .500 We had a rough couple weeks to close out the first half of the NBA season, but compensated for it by Dominating college basketball. Currently we stand at 30 games over with MANY MANY more left to go. Not bad, but not where we want to be here At the blogspot. The heat are a team that plays their entire game off of a drive based offense. they continually slash cut to the hoop and create isolations for Lebron and Wade to go one on one, clear-outs , pick and rolls, and 1-4 sets. This is usually combatted by on the ball defense and good interior presence, something that Boston Usually has. But with no Shaq or Erden, today we will have K. Perkins Shouldering the load of the starting, and also many of the normal bench minutes. Big baby, although he is an excellent Power forward, has no leaping ability to block shots and definitely will not be able to fill the void left by the two centers. Not to mention, Daniels, one of bostons best perimeter defenders and the first guy off the bench at the 2 and 3 spot, is also out for an indeterminate amount of time. I think the celtics get slapped honestly.
